We collect information you voluntarily provide when using the Service, including:

- Children's Information: First names and dates of birth of your children (entered by you as the parent/guardian)

- Electronic Signatures: Digital signatures on employment agreements
- Payment Information: Payment method details processed through our payment processor (Stripe)
- Communications: Messages you send to us for support or inquiries
2.2 Sensitive Information
Social Security Numbers (SSNs) and Employer Identification Numbers (EINs): We collect SSNs and EINs that you voluntarily provide for the purpose of generating tax worksheets and documentation. This information is:
- Encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM encryption
- Masked in the user interface — only the last 4 digits are displayed
- Never shared with third parties except as required by law
- Only used to generate your tax documents
2.3 Automatically Collected Information
When you access the Service, we automatically collect:
- Device Information: Browser type, operating system, device type
- Log Data: IP address, access times, pages viewed, referring URL
- Usage Data: Features used, actions taken, time spent on pages
- Cookies: Small data files stored on your device (see Section 9)
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Create your account and authenticate your identity
- Generate employment agreements, tax worksheets, and other documents
- Process payments and manage your subscription
- Send transactional emails (welcome emails, payment receipts, important updates)

- Stripe: Payment processing (Stripe receives payment information directly; we do not store full credit card numbers)

- Sentry: Error monitoring and debugging
- Browserless: PDF document generation
- Vercel: Website hosting
These providers only receive information necessary to perform their services and are contractually obligated to protect your data.

- Row Level Security (RLS) in our database to ensure users only access their own data

- Secure authentication through industry-standard providers
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users within 72 hours of discovering the breach, as required by applicable law. Notification will be sent via email and/or prominent notice on our website.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as:
- Your account is active
- Needed to provide the Service to you

Tax Records: We recommend retaining tax-related documentation for at least 7 years in accordance with IRS guidelines. Your data will remain available in your account for this purpose as long as you maintain an active subscription.
After Account Deletion: If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or enforcing our agreements).

8. Children's Privacy
The Service is designed to help parents document their children's employment, but the Service itself is intended for use by adults (parents/guardians) who are at least 18 years old.
COPPA Compliance: We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Parents enter information about their children on their behalf. The children's information we collect (first name and date of birth) is provided by the parent for the specific purpose of creating employment documentation.
We do not:
- Allow children to create accounts
- Collect information directly from children
- Share children's information with third parties for marketing purposes
If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child without proper parental consent, please contact us immediately at hello@employkids.com, and we will delete it.
